Micropac Units incorporating Air Driven Pumps

Why do we use air driven pumps on some of our Micropac products?

An air driven pump is an unbeatable choice for the right application. After 40 years of manufacturing products using our Micropac hand pumps, there are products and applications that can use the unique features of an air driven pump for particular big benefits. We’ve integrated them into three of our catalogue products with great success. Look at our PTR-M rugged skid air driven pump, the simple to programme PTR-A automated pressure test rig or our innovative DUO combination air and hand pump 2 wheel cart. Whether it is trench shoring in Australia, testing composite pressure vessels for satellites in Germany or charging process systems in the Gulf, our Micropac air driven units meet specialist needs and more worldwide.

What is an air driven pump?

These units can be called air driven hydraulic pumps, pneumatic driven pumps or even air liquid pumps. We will use air driven pumps. An air driven pump in principle uses a compressed air supply to generate hydraulic pressure by directly coupling a large diameter pneumatic cylinder to a smaller diameter liquid pump piston rod. Cycle the pneumatic cylinder backwards and forwards and you are operating the fluid pump with a pressure intensification effect. It is simple and rugged. We have a White Paper talking about air driven pumps in more detail. We discuss the different types, features, applications and when you wouldn’t use them. That’s four decades of our experience. Remember that an air driven pump in a shipping box is just one component. Engineering know-how converts it into a hydraulic unit for your application. We have integrated air driven pumps into Micropac hydrostatic pressure test units, filling or charging units and programmable pressure test rigs. We will always discuss your application.

We have three main families of Micropac product with an integral air driven pump.

Micropac PTR-M rugged air driven pump skid.

Micropac PTR-M air driven pump skid with 10L reservoir

A very compact skid-based air driven pump with integral air controls and for multi fluids to 700 bar. Incorporating our innovative utilities manifold to centralise the release valve, pressure gauge/transducer port and outlet port rather than using conventional pipework, compression fittings and vulnerable discrete components. Customers asked for a sturdy stainless steel fluid reservoir, not plastic. Select 10 litres, 20 litres or even a bare unit with a connection for your own reservoir supply. Learn more.

Micropac PTR-A catalogue programmable pressure test cycling rig.

an automatic pressure test cycling rig with touchscreen

Our PTR-A automatic pressure cycling rig. It looks very similar to the PTR-M, but with the additional PLC touch-screen control system added.

A compact and simple benchtop pressure cycling rig for multi fluids up to 700 bar. Intuitive programming via a touch screen allows you to set the number of cycles, time intervals and other parameters up to 40,000 repeats. The unit incorporates safety fall-backs if your test doesn’t work out. 10 or 20 litre stainless steel reservoirs and a sturdy frame. Customers look at the catalogue PTR-A as an alternative to expensive custom pressure test rigs. Will the PTR-A meet your needs? Learn more.

Micropac DUO combined air driven and hand pump two wheel cart trolley.

air driven hydraulic pump next to a manual hand pump, both on top of the same 50 litre wheel around trolley reservoir

Our Micropac DUO unit offers the best of both, air driven pump for fast action with little effort, and manual pump for dependable, controlled pressurisation.

This unique unit caters for users who either simply cannot risk having no air and being unable to work or need a fast automated fill cycle then a manual pump facility. A very neat design using a modular air driven unit and sharing components for small space envelope and value. Multi fluid to 700 bar. Learn more.
