Why is pressure testing often such a challenge very close to completion of the job?

We find that what should be very easy always has odd challenges. Maybe you have the wrong fittings and are spending a lot of time making fittings up. Maybe the test fluid specified was missed and your existing pump is filled with something else. Maybe it is as simple as your pressure gauge is out of calibration. Invariably, this is all left until late in the job on the basis that testing should be pretty easy.

What is a typical application for Micropac pressure test equipment?

For example, one customer had a challenge with what seemed a simple test job on aerospace fittings. The fluid was MIL-H-5606 fluid. Some hand pumps aren’t good on this fluid. Our units are. We came up with a pump, hose and a simple fitting set to mate with the range of fittings being tested plus caps with integrated air vent plugs for the other side of the fitting. The package was on very short lead time and was shipped ready for use. That sorted the test job very easily. What is our hit-list for easy and safe pressure testing?

Planning is number one. Check what you are doing and how to achieve it. Use our web resources if you need them on risk assessment, procedures and certification. Safety is everything.

Check over an existing pump to ensure it will reach the pressure on your fluid and that a pressure gauge is in calibration.

Get fittings that work as easily as possible. This is a small cost compared with messing about. Think about fittings specifically for the job. If you have fittings already, find them as soon as possible, check they all fit together then bag them ready for use.

If you have a lot of parts to test, making the process productive will really save money. For example, using quick disconnects in place of fittings installed each time using a spanner saves time.

When you have finished your testing, decide whether to make up a testing kit ready for use next time rather than simply losing the fittings.
